Grey's Anatomy may be one of the kings of popular medical drama TV shows, but is Ellen Pompeo's show the top in North Carolina?

If I were to say the names McDreamy or McSteamy, which medical drama TV show would the great people of North Carolina think of? For my wife Debbie, life stopped when Dr. Derek Shepherd, Dr. Mark Sloan and “Gray’s Anatomy” hit the tube.

Grand Canyon University recently compiled a list of the most popular medical dramas around the country. There are a lot of surprising results, most notably that ZERO states had legendary medical drama “ER” as their favorite.

“From waiting room chaos to steamy work romances to surgery room tragedies, this genre has become a staple of television, making long-lasting impressions on their audiences. There is no doubt doctors and nurses are some of our favorite TV characters, but which medical dramas are Americans binge-watching at home?”

Somewhat surprisingly, “General Hospital” led the way with four different states saying it’s the best. And while “Grey’s Anatomy” is based in Seattle, Washington, the good folks up in the Northwest decided “Combat Hospital” was their favorite show.

Grand Canyon says they compiled data from Ranker, IMDb, Movie Web and other sites to figure out the top rankings. They did eliminate shows that went off air before 2000, so there are some legendary favorites missing (M.A.S.H., St. Elsewhere).

“Despite “Code Black,” “Penny Dreadful: City of Angels,” “Pure Genius” and “Scrubs” being off the air for varying years, these four medical drama series tied as the second most popular medical drama show in the U.S., along with the more recent ABC hit, “The Good Doctor.” While these shows are no longer producing new episodes, they are still available to enjoy via streaming services and re-runs on cable, which likely explains the continued interest.”

Check out the list below and see which medical drama tv show was North Carolina’s favorite. You might be surprised.
