Lee County Woman Arrested for Stealing Vases From Fayetteville Graves
A 21-year-old woman from Sanford in Lee County has been arrested for allegedly stealing more than 100 flower vases from gravesites at two cemeteries in Fayetteville.
According to arrest records from Lee County, Savannah Bourgeois was booked on unrelated charges, and then subsequently booked on larceny charges in Lee and Cumberland Counties.
According to arrest warrants, the thefts occurred at Lafayette Memorial Park and Rockfish Memorial Park in Fayetteville.
Bourgeois allegedly stole the vases and sold them to a local scrapyard for cash. The warrants state she received over $600 from the scrapyard for the stolen metal vases, which are valued at around $34,000.
The thefts were discovered when family members visiting their loved ones’ graves noticed the vases were missing. Some of the vases had been placed on the graves over 30 years ago. The cemeteries worked with law enforcement to identify Bourgeois as the suspect using surveillance footage.
According to WRAL, Bourgeois was arrested on July 6, 2024 and booked into the Cumberland County jail on charges of felony larceny and obtaining property by false pretense. She is being held on a $110,000 secured bond.
