82nd All American Chorus Makes ‘America’s Got Talent’ Finals
Another performance, and another great for the 82nd Airborne Division All American Chorus from Fort Liberty, as they have reached the finals of “America’s Got Talent.”
The 82nd Chorus advanced through the Qualifiers round, after an incredible performance of “I Am Here” from Pink.
You know, you can’t live in this country, and be at home in this country and part of what we are and where we are, and not love what you just did,” judge Howie Mandel said. “It was so perfect – even though it’s a Pink song – we are here, because you are here. Without you, we couldn’t do what we’re doing. We wouldn’t have the freedom. We wouldn’t have the peace. We wouldn’t have the safety. I can’t thank you enough – for more than the performance – just for being here.”
The result means they’ll have a shot at this year’s title, which will be awarded Tuesday, September 26 at 8 p.m. on NBC.
“Thank you for not doing an obvious song, I mean this is a Pink song, that you turned around with a perfect lyric,” judge Simon Cowell said after the group got a standing ovation during Tuesday night’s show, which was recapped Wednesday. “And it was fun, and it was emotive. For me, this was a moment. You are one of my favorite acts this year.”
As we reported during the audition rounds, the Chorus was confident about how they could do this season. Cowell asked the group what their “big dream in coming on the show” was and Staff Sgt. Marcus Gilbert told him directly, “We are here to win.”
And win they are doing so far. Wednesday night’s results placed them in the final 11.
“It was fun. It was uplifting. It was perfect,” judge Sofia Vergara said. “You guys sound great. I think this act was better than the audition.”
“Well we always see you at attention, so it was nice to see you at ease,” judge Heidi Klum said. “You were having fun, dancing, singing. I loved it. I also hoped America loved it.”
