A $5 Rapid COVID-19 Test Has Been Authorized By The FDA
Abbott Laboratories has announced that they’ve gotten authorization from the FDA for a COVID-19 portable antigen test that delivers results within 15 minutes and sells for $5.
Per NBC News, “The portable test is about the size of a credit card, requires no additional equipment to operate, and can be conducted using a less invasive nasal swab than traditional lab tests.”
The test, BinaxNOW COVID-19 Ag Card, can be used to check that people participating in larger gatherings don’t have coronavirus. The outlet adds, “And could help aid the reopening of the U.S.”
The company plans on shipping millions of tests in September, and then 50 million tests a month after that.
Abbot has also created a convenient downloadable app so people who have taken the test can present their results before entering venues.
