These Random Things Could Boost Your Libido
We all go through dry spells and times where sex isn’t our top priority, but we don’t have to give up just because we’re getting older. Has your sex life taken a dip lately? You’re in good company. According to The Telegraph, studies suggest that as many as 75% of women over age 40 report their sex drive decreasing, while 40% of men over 45 experience low testosterone levels, which can cause lower libido.
Luckily, there are easy tweaks we can make to boost both desire and performance in the bedroom. Here are some simple lifestyle changes experts recommend to rev up your libido once again.
For men:
- Do push-ups and squats – Resistance exercises like these can naturally counteract declining testosterone levels, which drop by an average of 1% a year starting in a man’s 30s, accounting to Dr. Luke Pratsides.
- Dig into sardines – A recent study finds that 26.7% of men with a lack of desire for sex have a vitamin B12 deficiency. Eating sardines, which are loaded with the vitamin, may help.
- Try flossing – Good oral hygiene isn’t just important for your mouth, there’s also a link between gum disease and erectile dysfunction. Men with severe gum disease are more than twice as likely to have ED than guys with healthy teeth and gums, according to one study.
For women:
- Load up on healthy fats – Fats found in oily fish, avocado, nuts, seeds and olive oil, as well as omega-3s, can help promote healthy blood flow in the body, which helps with sex drive.
- Eat an apple a day – In one study of 731 women, eating an apple daily for six months was found to improve arousal and satisfaction.
Both men & women:
- Get some morning light – Vitamin D is essential for optimal sexual function for men and women and getting sunlight, especially first thing in the morning, can boost levels of vitamin D.
- Go swimming in cold water – Research shows a dip in frigid water can increase testosterone in men, while it increases estrogen and endorphins in women.
- Practice yoga – One study finds that 12 weeks of yoga improved sexual function in 75% of women over age 40. And a neurologist in India found that 12 weeks of yoga improved men’s sexual function.
