TOKYO, JAPAN - AUGUST 04: Quanera Hayes of Team United States reacts after competing in the Women's 400m Semi-Final on day twelve of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games at Olympic Stadium on August 04, 2021 in Tokyo, Japan.

Gray’s Creek graduate Quanera Hayes has a chance at an Olympic medal, as she has advanced to the finals of the women’s 400m in the Tokyo Summer Games.

Hayes advanced as an open qualifier, after finishing fourth in an extremely fast first heat. Hayes ran a 49.81, which would have made her an automatic qualifier in either of the other semifinal races. Overall, it was the sixth fastest time run in the semifinals.

She will be joined in the finals by legendary Team USA sprinter Allyson Felix, who she beat out for the top spot at the United States Track and Field championships.

In the quarterfinals Hayes ran a 51.07 to move through to the semis.

The 400m finals are set for prime time in Japan. That means they’ll be run Friday morning at 8:35 a.m. The finals are expected to be rebroadcast during NBC’s primetime coverage Friday night in the U.S. But you can see the race live online.
