Don’t Forget: Downtown Fayetteville Paid Parking Begins on July 1
Downtown Fayetteville’s paid parking is finally being activated , as the City of Fayetteville announced the new system will be turned on July 1.
The system had been installed last spring, but activation was delayed because of the impacts of COVID-19 on businesses throughout downtown.
“We appreciate the patience of downtown visitors as we transition to paid on-street parking,” Assistant Public Services Director Lee Jernigan said in a news release. “Our goal is to focus on education and compliance during our two-week warning period. The City and our vendor, Park Fayetteville, will continue to monitor operations during the transition to determine if any adjustments need to be made. Visitors can provide feedback through the Park Fayetteville website, parkfayettevillenc.com.”
The paid parking in the downtown area is specifically for city-owned lots, and curbside spots. There are 34 kiosks throughout downtown. These do not permit people to park in the private parking lots that are fixtures throughout downtown. Those lots have their own rules, not impacted by the City of Fayetteville. Additionally, paid event parking resumed on May 11. There are lots throughout downtown that will be marked as paid lots for the City of Fayetteville. This is right in time for the start of the Fayetteville Woodpeckers baseball season.
The paid parking downtown will only be in effect on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday will be free unless there is a special event. The weekday parking will be $1 per hour, with a max of $5 for a day in an off-street spot.
There will be free parking available in the Franklin St. Parking Deck, but only for your first hour. Tickets will not be issued for the first two weeks, but warnings will be issued.
