When it comes to digital security, it seems North Carolina is actually a lot more secure than we thought. At least according to one survey.
Have you ever asked yourself, “what steps am I taking to protect myself online?” It’s sometimes an uncomfortable topic we don’t want to know the answer to.
The company SecureDataRecovery.com recently surveyed over 2,300 U.S. online users about their online habits, and how secure that might make them.
“In 2021, the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center received over 2.76 million complaints of cyber attacks and malicious cyber activity,” Yevgeniy Reznik said in his report. “Luckily, you can take steps to protect yourself online. When it comes to cyber security and privacy, however, not everyone makes all the right moves.”
Factors used to compile the list included keeping personal information off of social media, having unique passwords, using antivirus software on devices, not clicking on anything suspicious like attachments or links and keeping copies of important information.
New York is apparently the worst in the country at digital security.
“With the lowest total safety score, New York ranks as the most digitally vulnerable state in the U.S. overall,” the study said. “It also has low scores compared to the rest of the nation on vulnerability to hacks (#2), backups (#5), personal information (#10), and passwords (#15).”
Kentucky somehow finds itself as the safest state in the country, edging out Louisiana and New Jersey.
