WWE Wrestler Tests Positive for COVID-19, TV Production Suspended
WWE has temporarily suspended television production following an unnamed wrestler testing positive of COVID-19.
Per USA Today, the wrestler is described as a “developmental talent” who was last at WWE’s Performance Center on June 9. The WWE Performance Center has been where the WWE has been filming all of the weekly and PPV shows since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, including WrestleMania 36.
WWE’s associate medical director Jeffrey Dugas said in a statement that, “A developmental talent, who was last on site at WWE’s training facility on Tuesday, June 9, has tested positive for COVID-19. Since that time, no other individuals that attended the facility have reported symptoms. However, out of an abundance of caution and to ensure the health and safety of the company’s performers and staff, all talent, production crew and employees on site at the training and production facilities will be tested for COVID-19 immediately. Following the test results, WWE plans to proceed with its normal television production schedule.”
The WWE has been utilizing their developmental talent as of late as “audience members” for their programming. The sports entertainment giant was able to continue their programming after they were deemed an “essential business” by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis back in April.
