‘New Jack City’ & ‘House Party’ Slated For Reboots
2019 seems to the year of rebooting and reimagining cult classic films and television shows. Now, two of the ’90s most beloved classics, New Jack City (1991) and House Party (1990) are slated for a reboot, as Deadline reports.
Here is what we know so far about both reboots:
New Jack City
- Snowfall‘s Malcolm M. Mays will be writing the script for the New Jack City reboot.
- A Star Is Born ‘s Bill Gerber is producing the reboot along with the film’s original producer Doug McHenry.
- New Jack City currently has no director assigned to it.
- It’s currently unclear whether or not the original movie’s actors, Wesley Snipes, Ice-T, Chris Rock, Flavor Flav, Allen Payne, Judd Nelson, and Mario Van Peebles will appear in the reboot.
House Party
- Music video director Calmatic, who recently received commercial acclaim for directing Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” remix video will be making his feature directorial debut with a reimagining of House Party at New Line Cinema.
- The script for House Party will be written by Emmy-nominated Atlanta duo Stephen Glover and Jamal Olori.
- LeBron James and Maverick Carter of SpringHill Entertainment will produce the movie.
- It’s currently unclear whether or not Christopher “Kid” Reid and Christopher “Play” Martin of the rap duo Kid ‘N Play who starred in the original film will appear in the reboot.
