New Luther Vandross Documentary Screening This Week in Fayetteville at Film Festival
Hello my luvs! I had the best time at last year’s Indigo Moon Film Festival in downtown Fayetteville, where the atmosphere was vibrant and buzzing with excitement. This year promises to be just as amazing, if not more. Last year, I caught “Black Barbie,” a powerful film that resonated so deeply with audiences that Netflix and Shonda Rhimes picked it up. It was a poignant experience where I laughed, cried, and felt incredibly proud as a Black woman. Seeing such strong representation was truly inspiring and reaffirmed the importance of diverse voices in film.

This year, I’m super excited to see “Never Too Much,” a documentary about the legendary Luther Vandross. My parents always said we wouldn’t be here without Luther’s music—he’s like the famous uncle I never met but hold dear in my heart. Growing up, his soulful voice and timeless hits filled our home with warmth and joy, so I have immense admiration and respect for him.
Mark your calendars for Friday, October 11 at 7 p.m. for the opening night film “Luther: Never Too Much”
There will be two screenings: one on opening night – which is nearly sold out – and another on Sunday, October 13 at 1:30 p.m. at the CAMEO Art House Theatre in Fayetteville, NC. The venue is known for its cozy ambiance and dedication to showcasing incredible films.
Luther started his career by supporting icons like David Bowie and Roberta Flack, showcasing his extraordinary talent before earning his own acclaim with numerous platinum records. Despite facing challenges, he broke through to become one of history’s greatest vocalists. Directed by Dawn Porter, a festival favorite known for her engaging storytelling, the documentary takes us on a soulful journey into Luther’s life, exploring his immense talent as a singer, songwriter, and producer while sharing insights into his personal life and struggles.
“Never Too Much” celebrates Luther Vandross and his music with depth and joy. It’s produced by an incredible team, including Trish D Chetty, Ged Doherty, and Jamie Foxx, among others, with executive producers like Dawn Porter and Colin Firth, ensuring a captivating and heartfelt tribute.
Luther now sits proudly on my playlist next to Jay-Z and Jazmine Sullivan, a testament to his timeless musical legacy. You can catch “Never Too Much” this weekend at the Indigo Moon Film Festival on Friday at 7 PM to kick off the festivities or on Sunday at 1 PM to wrap it up. Don’t miss the chance to celebrate the life and music of a legend!
