City of Fayetteville Citizens Police Academy Stars New Session in October, Sign-Ups Open

Residents of the City of Fayetteville, learn more about your Police Department at the City of Fayetteville Citizens Police Academy.

The Academy will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. every Tuesday from October 1, 2024 until December 10, 2024.

Depending on the topic being covered, the Citizens Police Academy will take place at the main Police Department located at 467 Hay Street in Fayetteville, North Carolina or the Fayetteville Police Department Training Center located at 670 North Eastern Boulevard in Fayetteville.

Please note, the Citizens Police Academy is limited to the first (20) to sign up.

How Do You Sign Up

The first step is to complete the Citizens Police Academy application. The link to download the application can be found below. While completing the application, you will also need to complete the Authorization to Obtain Information form.

The Authorization to Obtain Information form will allow the department to do a background check on attendees. The background check is necessary based on the sensitive nature of some of the information that will be shared.

Also and very important, make sure you get the Authorization to Obtain Information form notarized. If you need help getting your form notarized, please contact Diane Isaacs. Her information is below.

One you complete and notarize your paperwork, you may deliver the documents to the Fayetteville Police Training Center during normal business hours or you can mail the information. The address is Fayetteville Police Department Training Center, Attention: Diane Isaacs, 671 North Eastern Boulevard, Fayetteville, North Carolina 28301.

The Citizens Police Academy has two goals. The first is to give attendees an indepth look at just how the Fayetteville Police Department operates. The second goal is to help attendees become more informed thus helping create a safer Fayetteville community.

Which is why my boo and I recently tied the knot at a state park in Florida, in my childhood hometown. Not only was it special to be in a place that meant so much to me, but the cost for the state park venue also left room in the wedding budget for other expenses.

When you start planning your state park wedding, here are some things to consider:

  • Look for parks with historic buildings, mansions, or lodges for a vintage vibe
  • Choose a park with dramatic natural features like waterfalls, canyons, beaches or ancient forests
  • Opt for a secluded or lesser-known park for more privacy
  • Incorporate the park’s scenery into your decor and theme
  • Take advantage of on-site lodging like cabins or campgrounds to make it a full weekend event

Most state parks provide tables, chairs, and access to electricity and restrooms. Some even have lodges, cabins or campgrounds where guests can stay on-site, making it a full weekend event. This keeps things simple for you and your guests. Having the ceremony and reception in separate locations is common. Providing transportation is optional as most guests can navigate between the sites themselves, however some parks have solutions for this. For instance, our state park venue offered a wilderness boat ride between park and reception space.

Be aware that your wedding will be just one event happening at the park. Check if any other major happenings are planned that could impact your day. Carefully review any regulations on decorations, sound/music, flowers, etc. as state parks often have restrictions to preserve the natural environment.

With their combination of natural beauty, historic charm, and affordable rates, state parks offer endless opportunities for a one-of-a-kind wedding experience. Just be sure to secure the proper permits and follow all park regulations.
