$1.13 Billion Mega Millions Winner Is From New Jersey, Powerball Set For Tonight
Tuesday night was a big night for somebody from New Jersey, as the Mega Millions winner of $1.13 billion came from the Garden State.
The winner has not come forward yet, and they have up to a year to do so. And in New Jersey, they aren’t required to reveal themselves. They can stay anonymous, which probably isn’t a bad idea when you come into that kind of money.
A Good Night to Be a Mega Millions Winner
It was a big night for Mega Millions winners, as not only did someone win the big prize, but there were 13 winners nationwide of the $1 million prize, and one winner of the $2 million prize for buying the Megaplier bonus. None of those winners were in North Carolina, though.
There were 34 winners of $20,000, and three of those DID come from North Carolina, while four Tar Heels also won $10,000.
And since none of us here won the Mega Millions, it’s time to turn our attention to tonight’s drawing for the Powerball. The North Carolina Education Lottery says Wednesday night’s drawing is for an estimated $865 million. Or a measly $416.1 million if you take the cash option.
“The Powerball game has a reputation for producing life-changing prizes and tonight’s top five jackpot would certainly qualify,” said Mark Michalko, executive director of the N.C. Education Lottery. “We have seen 36 straight drawings without a winner but we hope drawing 37 ends the run with a jackpot win in North Carolina. Good luck.”
Players can buy Mega Millions and Powerball tickets at any lottery retail location or through Online Play on the lottery’s website, www.nclottery.com, or with the NC Lottery Official Mobile App.
The odds of winning a Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302 million. The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.
