Why A South Carolina Woman Asked Workers To Search Through 100’s Of Lbs Of Trash
Sometimes we take city maintenance workers for granted. They do thankless jobs; fix roads, mow city lawns, and pick up trash and roadkill too. A South Carolina woman asked a little more of those city workers recently. She needed them to search 100’s of lbs. of trash!
Last Sunday, Melanie Harpe of Greenville, South Carolina, was beside herself when her diamond wedding band accidentally slipped off her finger and fell into a recycling bin at the city’s Rutherford Road recycling center. Even though she thought it was unlikely anyone could help, she reached out to the City of Greenville’s Public Works department to see if they could recover her precious ring.
Known for their dedication, workers from the Public Works team took on the challenge to find Harpe’s ring. In a post to social media, the city compared the search to finding a needle in a haystack. However, the Public Works supervisors and their litter crew meticulously sifted through the contents of the bin, showing their extraordinary commitment to helping a member of the community.
After a painstaking search, one of the workers, Travis Golden, remarkably discovered the white gold diamond wedding band. The Public Works team’s efforts and dedication not only brought relief and joy to Harpe, who was reunited with her cherished ring, but also showed the team’s deep commitment to serving the community. The city applauded the efforts of the Public Works team, thanking them for being an invaluable part of the Greenville community.
Give your trash person a “high five” next time you see them, they may need to help you one day!
