Hurricane Like Conditions Expected In The Carolinas Tuesday
It’s not summer or fall in North Carolina anymore, so hurricane season is officially over. But the National Weather Service says the Carolinas will likely see hurricane conditions on Tuesday. That means some of the biggest rains and highest winds we’ve seen in a long time are making their way to the area. A wind advisory is already in effect from 10am to 10pm Tuesday. Winds are expected to be 20 to 30 mph with gusts over 50.
The NWS says a low-pressure system will move into the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia tonight into Tuesday. The system is bringing heavy rainfall and windy conditions. Rainfall totals ranging from 2 to 4 inches may lead to scattered flooding, particularly in urban areas. There is also a chance of thunderstorms, a few of which could be severe with damaging wind gusts. An isolated tornado will also be possible, mainly south of I-85.
As Kiss 951’s resident weather geek, let me say this is a good reminder to Stay weather-aware. Charge up your phones and make sure you have batteries in your flashlights. Local meteorologists are saying we could have extended power outages in the area. Hurricane conditions are serious even if it’s in January. If this was a named storm there would be way more discussion about Tuesday’s weather. Now ya know!
