Kelly Clarkson’s Ex to Pay Her Millions for Overcharging Her
Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, overcharged her by millions when he represented Kelly as her manager. According to a ruling by a California labor commissioner, obtained by People, Blackstock booked her gigs and inked deals for Kelly on The Voice, Norwegian Cruise Line, Wayfair, and as host of the Billboard Music Awards from 2018 to 2020. Clarkson, 41, filed the lawsuit against her ex, in which he has been ordered to pay her $2,641,374 for overstepping in his managerial role and unlawfully procuring deals that should’ve been handled by her team at Creative Artists Agency.
“Under the Talent Agencies Act (TAA), a manager, like any person without a talent agency license, cannot procure or attempt to procure employment for artists,” reads the ruling. Instead, he collected the fees for booking the singer-songwriters’ gigs. His earnings turned out to be $1.98 million in commissions for her role on The Voice, $208,125 for her promotional deal with Norwegian Cruise Line, $450,000 for Wayfair, and $93.30 for her multi-year contract as the Billboard Music Awards host. His legal team has filed to appeal the ruling. Though The Kelly Clarkson show host also wanted the money Blackstock, 46, received for scoring her the talk show, the labor commissioner did not agree, so Brandon keeps that commission.
