‘The Marvels’ First Trailer Drops: Brie Larson Leads The Trio
Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) leads off a trailer once again for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This time, it’s for The Marvels, which includes Monica Rambeau/Captain Marvel (Teyonah Parris), Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel (Imani Vellani) and Captain Marvel (Brie Larson). As the trailer begins, Fury asks Rambeau, “What the hell are you doing?” We see her floating outside of the S.A.B.E.R. Space Station.
Kamala’s Dream Come True
After making contact, she is replaced by Ms. Marvel, who freaks out and then geeks out when she sees Fury. She playfully asks, “Is this an Avengers test?” Meanwhile, Rambeau materializes somewhere else in space and gets attacked. Captain Marvel barges through Kamala’s bedroom door in this power entanglement (this mirrors the last scene of the Ms. Marvel Disney+ series). So, we learn that when one of the women activates her powers, she accidentally swaps places with another—no matter where she is in the universe.
The young women are seemingly unenthused about this team-up, besides Kamala. Despite that, the trailer shows how they embrace each other. Ms. Marvel makes it very obvious how excited she is to be working with Fury and her idol, Captain Marvel.
Talking to Good Morning America about reprising the role of Captain Marvel, Larson said the new film would explore “some of the complexities of the character.” “The first one was the origin story of who she is. Now it’s digging into some of the complexities,” Larson said. “There is much more to her than that; there are parts that are not so great about her. That we can see a hero as being a person that doesn’t make every right decision all the time.”
The Marvels hits theaters this November 10. Watch the first teaser trailer here.
Captain Marvel (2019) leads into the Disney+ series Secret Invasion. That series is about Nick Fury taking it upon himself to foil a secret invasion from the shape-shifting Skrulls. Secret Invasion is set to premiere on Disney+ on June 21. And if we know the MCU, that series will likely lead neatly into The Marvels.
