3 Reasons Why You Should Watch Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘A Nonsense Christmas Special’
Sabrina Carpenter has been in the news recently due to the end of her relationship with Irish actor Barry Keoghan. However, A Nonsense Christmas Special has also been generating buzz after it dropped on Netflix.
If you haven’t watched A Nonsense Christmas Special yet, here are 3 reasons you should.
A Nonsense Christmas Special Songs
Carpenter’s holiday special wouldn’t be complete, of course, without Christmas songs! Here are the songs she performed:
- “Buy Me Presents”
- “It’s The Most Nonsense Time of The Year”
- “This Christmas” with Tyla
- “Santa Doesn’t Know You Like I Do”
- “Santa Baby” with Shania Twain
- “What Do I Get My Brother-in-Law?”
- “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” with Kali Uchis
- “Last Christmas” with Chappell Roan
- “Cindy Lou Who”
The Guests
Aside from Tyla, Twain, Uchis, and Roan, who sang duets with Carpenter, several celebrities also made guest appearances in A Nonsense Christmas Special for the sketches.
Sean Astin
Sean Astin, known for his role as Samwise in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, plays Nick (and also Santa), Carpenter’s boyfriend. In an interview with People, Astin mentioned how he almost didn’t accept the invitation to appear in the holiday special, if it weren’t for his daughters who convinced slash guilt trip him.
He shared he was in the middle of doing something else and was always tired when his daughters talked to him. “I think it was Elizabeth and Bella, the younger ones. And Elizabeth was like, ‘Dad! Two things. Why are you trying to sabotage your career? And two, why are you trying to hurt my heart? Why wouldn’t you do this Sabrina Carpenter thing?’”
He added, “And I’m like, ‘I don’t know!’ So we sat down. We watched all of her Instagram stuff, and she’s a genius. Her whole aesthetic, everything that she does.”
Megan Stalter and Owen Thiele
Megan Stalter, comedian and actress known for her role in the TV show Hacks and as a guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race, and Owen Thiele, whose filmography includes roles in Zoey 102 and Parachute, both appear as Carpenter’s friends who can’t believe she’s dating Santa Claus.
Kyle Mooney
Kyle Mooney is a comedian, actor and director. He appeared in another sketch as Carpenter’s brother-in-law.
Jillian Bell
Jillian Bell plays Carpenter’s sister, Mooney’s wife. She is known for her roles in the movies 22 Jump Street, Fist Fight and the TV series Workaholics.
Nico Hiraga
Nico Hiraga is a guest for another sketch. He plays a character haunted by women he ghosted in the past. He is known for the movies Moxie and Booksmart and the British sci-fi drama series The Power.
Quinta Brunson
Quinta Brunson appears in the sketch alongside Hiraga. She plays the “Ghost of Christmas Present,” the woman Hiraga is currently ghosting. Brunson is also known for her roles in Abbott Elementary, iZombie, and Single Parents.
Cara Delevingne
The actress and supermodel complete the “ghosts.” Carpenter is the “Ghost of the Past,” Brunson is the “Ghost of the Present,” and Cara Delevingne is the “Ghost of the Future.” Aside from being a supermodel, Delevingne is also known for her roles in the film Paper Towns, based on the book by John Green, and Suicide Squad.
The Dirty Bits
We know Carpenter is hilarious and known for changing the lyrics to her songs. So of course, her lyrics and monologues for A Nonsense Christmas Special are full of innuendos. She changed the lyrics of her song “Nonsense” for her opening number.
The first verse goes: “Think I only want one number in my phone/I might change your contact to ‘Don’t Leave Me Alone’/You said you like my eyes, and you like to make ’em roll/Treat me like a queen, now you got me feelin’ thrown, oh”
For the Christmas special, she changed it to: “Think I only want you under my mistletoe/I might change your contact to “Has a huge North Pole”/You said you like my stockings better on the floor/Boy, I’ve been a bad girl, I guess I’m gettin’ coal (no)”
The original pre-chorus goes: “But I can’t help myself when you get close to me/Baby, my tongue goes numb, sounds like ‘bleh-blah-blee’/I don’t want no one else (No, no), baby, I’m in too deep/Here’s a lil’ song I wrote (A song I wrote), it’s about you and me (Me)”
While the dirtier version is like: “Lemme come warm you up, you been out in the snow/Baby, my tongue goes numb, sounds like ‘ho-ho-ho’/I don’t want Santa’s elves underneath this ol’ tree/Here’s a lil’ carol I wrote, it’s about you and me (me)”
The chorus, second verse, and outro were also changed to be more festive—and a little dirty. Fans loved it. As reported by The Independent, fans began asking for a live album. Comments like “Petition for Sabrina to release all of the songs from A Nonsense Christmas in a live album, please” and “So, are we getting an A Nonsense Christmas live album or???” were posted on various social media platforms.
Sabrina Carpenter, please give the people what they want!
