‘Wizards Beyond Waverly Place’ Premieres In October With Selena Gomez
Nostalgia is definitely in the air, and it’s going strong with the upcoming Wizards of Waverly Place sequel on Disney. Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, the new sequel series, is set to premiere on Disney Channel this October.
Disney Channel will kick off the series with the first two episodes on Oct. 29 at 8:00 p.m. ET, and the first eight episodes will be available to stream on Disney+ and Disney Channel On Demand the next day.
Following the initial premiere, two new episodes, including a Halloween-themed episode, will air back-to-back on Oct. 30. Starting on Nov. 8, episode premieres will move to Fridays at 8:00 p.m. ET, with two new episodes each week.
The Hollywood Reporter reported that Raven-Symoné (Raven’s Home and That’s So Raven) and Danielle Fishel (Girl Meets World and Boy Meets World) are also set to direct episodes in season one.
“‘Wizards Beyond Waverly Place’ follows an adult Justin Russo (David Henrie), who has chosen to lead a normal, mortal life with his family, Giada, Roman, and Milo. When Justin’s sister Alex (Selena Gomez) brings Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown) to his home seeking help, Justin realizes he must dust off his magical skills to mentor the wizard-in-training while also juggling his everyday responsibilities — and safeguarding the future of the Wizard World,” reads the series’ logline.
The series stars Henrie, LeAnn Brown, Alkaio Thiele (as Roman Russo), Max Matenko (as Milo Russo), Taylor Cora (as Winter), and Mimi Gianopulos (as Giada Russo). Gomez will guest star as Alex in the first episode. According to IMDB, Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas serve as writers and executive producers, along with executive producers Gary Marsh, Jonas Agin, Gomez, and Henrie. Andy Fickman directed and executive-produced the pilot and will direct multiple episodes.
Selena Gomez recently shared with ExtraTV that it took years for this sequel series to come together. “After probably like four years, we came up with an idea. And I will say that David [Henrie] spearheaded the whole thing. But I was immediately on board, and I can’t wait to bring the show to a whole new generation and I’m honored to pay homage to where I started,” she said.
Fans are thrilled about the premiere date announcement, taking to the comments of Disney’s Instagram post to share their excitement. “October is going to be such a good month for TV shows,” one person shared. “My childhood is coming back!” another wrote. “Excited to see Alex Russo back on the screen, here’s to manifesting her in more than just a couple of episodes,” someone else commented.
