Adam Sandler Is An Unexpected Gen Z Fashion Icon
My generation looked up to Adam Sandler as a comedy icon. Now, he’s being viewed by Gen Z as a fashion icon!
Thankfully, you can be both! There’s so much to love about Adam Sandler. He’s one of the very few celebrities that seemingly nobody has a problem with. Sure, you might not be a huge fan of his newer movies, but that’s not a reflection on the man nor his talents. We’ve seen what he can do, and we love him for it. He’s funny, he’s relatable, and he dresses like we do!
A Look At The Fashion Influence of Adam Sandler
We’ve long associated the rich and successful with dressing in designer brands and the finest of attire. However, not every celebrity chooses to dress like that. Mark Zuckerberg tends to dress casual, but he hasn’t become a fashion icon for it. At least not compared to Sandler whose look has become an inspiration for Gen Z (and millennials, alike). His look has been named “Madam Sandler,” and it consists of wearing baggy shorts with a crop top.
It seems like every time Sandler is photographed in public, he looks like he wasn’t expecting it. He’s typically dressed in comfortable clothes like a hoodie and oversized basketball shorts. He’s very consistent with the look–it’s his signature look. During an interview with People at the premiere of his new stand-up special “Love You” the Happy Gilmore star answered some questions about his signature look dubbed as “Sandlercore” by many people online.
Regarding his clothes, Sandler told People, “You know, this is an accidental thing, but here I am wearing goofy clothes, and I don’t know. I don’t think about it.” Even during the interview, he’s wearing some very unique, but on-brand, clothes with a yellow collared shirt with gators and some sort of clubs on it. Either way, it’s totally him and something he’d rock to a premiere.
Discussing his choice of attire is nothing new. The Sandman has been doing this for years. Last year, during an appearance on the Drew Barrymore Show to promote his movie Murder Mystery 2, he explained the process behind picking out his outfits. He told Barrymore, “I go into my closet, I got a bunch of t-shirts and shorts, kinda they’re all the same…I usually go t-shirt first…I just want to cover that quickly. I’m like what the hell, grab anything. Then I go with shorts and I throw them on. Sometimes they’ll be slightly too tight. I go, ‘Let me take those off,’ and get the triple-X shorts on.”
Honestly, that sounds very similar to how I go about picking my clothes. Just look and grab what’s close and move on. It requires very little thought. Maybe I take after Adam? It seems to be rubbing off on me, and I don’t think I’m alone!
