This Gym Launched A $40K A Year Gym Membership To Slow Aging
If you think your gym membership is expensive, brace yourself. High-end fitness chain Equinox is introducing a new membership that promises to improve overall health and boost longevity. But according to NY Post this program, “Optimize by Equinox,” doesn’t come cheap. Its $40-thousand a year price tag makes it one of the most expensive gym memberships in the world.
So what do you get in the gym membership for all that money?
- Equinox is partnering with Function Health on the personalized health program and it starts with a series of tests checking for 100 biomarkers, looking at heart, liver and kidney health, as well as metabolic and immune systems, cancer markers, Alzheimer’s disease risk and more.
- Then Equinox will run its own battery of fitness tests, including strength and movement range and VO2 max, which measures how much oxygen is used during intense exercise.
- An Equinox “concierge” uses the results to help the member create a personalized plan to improve overall health and fitness.
- Members will have a team made up of a fitness trainer, a nutrition coach, a sleep coach and a massage therapist.
- Optimize memberships come with three hour-long training sessions a week, along with two half-hour sessions a month with a nutrition coach, two half-hour sessions a month with a sleep coach and one massage therapy session a month, totaling about 16 hours of training and coaching a month.
- The Optimize program kicks off in New York City at the end of May, then it will roll out in Texas and other states.
“It’s really a paradigm shift in how we’re able to live with vitality and avoid suffering,” explains Jonathan Swerdlin, co-founder of Function Health. “It deals with what’s above the surface, your abs and glutes, which you can see in the mirror that are great. But it also deals with what’s below the surface and what you can’t see in the mirror. And that’s revolutionary.”
