Barbra Streisand Faces Backlash Asking If Melissa McCarthy Used Ozempic
Barbra Streisand faces backlash after asking if Melissa McCarthy used Ozempic to lose weight on Instagram. The Bridesmaids star posted a photo of herself on Monday (April 29) with Hairspray director Adam Shankman in an event honoring her friend, Matthew Bourne.
‘Did You Take Ozempic?’
While many fans praised McCarthy’s pastel green outfit she wore at the event, Streisand made a bold remark about her weight loss. In a now-deleted comment, Streisand wrote: “Give him my regards did you take Ozempic?”
Fans came to the comedian’s defense, and though Streisand’s comment is gone, people wrote things like, “I think Barbara thought it was a dm.” Another said, “Babs. No, honey. Just no.” A third commented, “Barbra, did you get a facelift?” Another simply stated: “Rude, Barbra.”
McCarthy, 53, has been open about her weight fluctuating over the years. In 2018, she told Life & Style that she had lost 75 pounds by consistently exercising and eating a high-protein and low-carb diet. “It may be the best thing I’ve ever done,” she said at the time.
Last year, McCarthy told People that she’s happy with how she looks. She told the publication that when she was in her 30s, she came to terms with who she is. “And if someone wasn’t thrilled with that, that’s okay too.”
Ozempic has been a popular weight-loss drug, and is used to manage conditions like obesity and diabetes. Celebrities including Kelly Osbourne, Elon Musk, Amy Schumer, and Chelsea Handler have admitted to using Ozempic as a weight loss drug.
During Jimmy Kimmel’s opening monologue at the 2023 Oscars, he joked: “Everybody looks so great. When I look around this room, I can’t help but wonder, ‘Is Ozempic right for me?'”
Streisand, 82, took to her Instagram Stories to offer an explanation the following day. The Funny Girl star wrote: “OMG – I went to Instagram to see the photos we’d posted of the beautiful flowers I’d received from my birthday!” Streisand recently celebrated her birthday on April 24th.
Her Story continued, “Below them was a photo of my friend Melissa McCarthy who I sang with on my Encore album. She looked fantastic! I just wanted to pay her a compliment. I forgot the world is reading!”
Following her apology, McCarthy also addressed Streisand’s comment. She told gossip website TMZ, “I think Barbra is a treasure, and I love her.” She even waved off the question on whether she thought Barbra was out of line.
