Powerball and Mega Millions Nearing $2 Billion in Combined Jackpots
Stop us if you’ve heard this one before, but you could win a LOT of money in the next couple of nights, as the Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots have skyrocketed to a combined $1.9 billion.
According to the North Carolina Education Lottery, it’s the first time in history that both jackpots have been at $800 million or more at the same time.
The jackpot for the Powerball drawing set for Monday night is currently at an estimated $800 million on an annuity, or $384.8 million in cash. That would make the winner the sixth largest in Powerball history if it happens tonight.
On the Mega Millions side Tuesday night, the jackpot has climbed to an incredible $1.1 billion as an annuity. If you opted for the cash option (why wouldn’t you?), you’d take home $525.8 million before taxes.
“We saw a lot of nice wins for players on both Powerball and Mega Millions over the weekend,” said Mark Michalko, executive director of the N.C. Education Lottery. “Let’s hope the good luck continues this week with a jackpot win in North Carolina. Good luck.”
A ticket bought for Saturday’s Powerball drawing won $100,000. The ticket was purchased at Freddy Tobacco Mart on Raeford Road. It was one of four tickets to get $50,000 or more in Saturday’s drawing in North Carolina.
Players can buy Mega Millions and Powerball tickets at any lottery retail location or through Online Play on the lottery’s website, www.nclottery.com, or with the NC Lottery Official Mobile App.
The odds of winning a Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302 million. The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.
