Miley Cyrus: The Day She Knew Her Marriage Was Over
Miley Cyrus is opening up about the moment she knew her marriage to Liam Hemsworth was over — to the day. As part of the “Flowers” singer’s “Used To Be Young” TikTok series this week, she said, “I have to slow down because this is actually serious.” Miley, 30, and Liam, 33, were together for a decade on and off and were married from December 2018 to January 2020. “So Glastonbury was in June,” Cyrus recalled in the clip. She says this was when the decision had been made that her and Liam’s commitment to be married “just really came from a place of love first because we’ve been together for ten years, but also from a place of trauma and just trying to rebuild as quickly as we could.”
Cyrus performed on day five of the English festival in 2019. She went on to explain that the day of the show “was the day that I had decided that it was no longer going to work in my life to be in that relationship.” She added there was “another moment where the work, the performance, the character came first. I guess that’s why it’s now so important to me for that not to be the case. The human comes first.”

Miley met Liam on the set of their 2010 romance movie The Last Song. Eight months after being married, Hemsworth filed for divorce in August. Even though their relationship didn’t last, Miley previously noted she doesn’t regret their marriage. In a May interview with British Vogue, she told the publication, “I wouldn’t erase my story or want it to be erased. Having an interesting life makes for interesting storytelling.”
Miley is currently in a “very serious” relationship with musician Maxx Morando, 24, since late 2021. Liam is currently dating model Gabriella Brooks, 25. After going Instagram official in 2021, a source told E! News that Liam’s family “very much approves and likes having her around. They are happy for Liam that he has found someone that brings out the best in him.”
