Gray’s Creek Alum Quanera Hayes Advances to Olympic 400m Semifinals
Quanera Hayes’ quest for an Olympic medal is continuing, as the 2010 Gray’s Creek graduate has qualified for the semifinals in the Women’s 400m, after a solid finish in her opening heat of the Tokyo Olympic Games.
Hayes finished second in the second heat of the 400 (watch the heat here), with a time of 51.07 seconds. That was good enough to qualify ninth for the next round. The top three finishers in each of the heats automatically qualify for the next round, so her time was not as fast as it would have been if she had needed to run faster for the next round.
Hayes was the champion at the US Track and Field National Championships to qualify for the Tokyo Games.
Hayes is joined in the semifinals by both of the other United States qualifiers, Allyson Felix and Wadeline Jonathas, in the semifinals. Those semifinal races are set to begin at 6:30 a.m. EDT on Wednesday, August 4. Hayes will be in the first of three semifinals.
