$600 Stimulus Checks To Go Out As Early As Tonight
$600 stimulus payments will go out to millions of Americans tonight, according to tweets from Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin. He said that payments “may begin to arrive in some accounts by direct deposit as early as tonight.”
He added that the process of mailing out paper checks would start on Wednesday for individuals without government-registered bank accounts.

There was a separate bill passed by the House of Representatives to increase the amount of the stimulus checks to $2000, but that was blocked earlier today in the Senate. According to USA Today, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blocked Democrats’ initial attempt to approve increased payments. McConnell introduced an alternative version of the bill, but as USA Today reports, it “includes demands by the president – on contentious issues that Democrats are not likely to support and thus would kill any chances of increasing aid payments.”
