‘Batman’: New Trailer Features Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright And Nirvana
One of the most highly anticipated events at yesterday’s DC Fandome convention was the trailer for the upcoming film, The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson.
The trailer, which uses Nirvana’s “Something In The Way” as its backing music, shows us Pattinson’s Batman and Bruce Wayne, as well as Jeffrey Wright at Commissioner Gordon, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman and Paul Dano as the Riddler. Variety reports that writer/director Matt Reeves said that The Batman won’t be an origin story per se, and that it starts in “Year Two” of Batman’s career. So, in this film, Catwoman, the Riddler, and the Penguin (played by Colin Farrell) are still in the early stages of their development.
Variety reports that The Batman had to suspend production due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and is set to start filming again in early September. Reeves said he had shot just 25% of the film so far. The movie is now due out in October of 2021.
The Batman also stars John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Jayme Lawson and Andy Serkis.
Also in the works is a spin-off Gotham PD TV series set a year before the events of The Batman. The show will air on HBO Max.
It appears that The Batman is only one of the franchises that stars the Bruce Wayne/Batman character. Ben Affleck, who hung up the cowl after playing Batman in 2016’s Batman v. Superman and again in 2017’s Justice League will return to playing that role in the upcoming Flash movie, which sees Ezra Miller returning to the title role (which he first played in Justice League). Warner Brothers offered an image from that film as well.

Confused? It gets even more convoluted (unless you’re a comic book reader familiar with multi-verses). It’s rumored that The Flash will also feature Michael Keaton playing his version of Batman (Keaton played Batman in 1989’s Batman and 1992’s Batman Returns). How? Because The Flash will introduce the concept of the “multi-verse” from the comic books. This concept was first hinted at on The Flash TV show when Miller’s Flash briefly met with the TV’s show’s Flash, played by Grant Gustin.
You might be asking, “what is the multi-verse?” The concept is that there are different versions of the universe, with slightly different versions of the same characters. (Marvel’s version of this was demonstrated in the recent animated film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse; for years, the Star Trek TV frachise has done something similar with their “Mirror Universe”). This video may (or may not) help explain the concept.
At least you have time to prepare by binge-watching DC movies and TV shows and reading some of the comics: The Flash isn’t expected to hit theaters until June 3, 2022. Watch the trailer below.
