WWE Reportedly Considering Holding SummerSlam on a Boat
WWE has been holding all television tapings and PPV events inside their Performance Center in Orlando, Fla. since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, but their upcoming PPV event SummerSlam might emanate from a different, and surprising, location.
In an audio update from PW Insider’s Mike Johnson (transcribed by Ringside News), WWE is toying with the idea of holding SummerSlam in an outdoor setting including on a boat or on a beach.
Something different could be in the works for SummerSlam. During WWE’s June shareholder’s meeting, CEO Vince McMahon was asked if the company has a backup plan if they’re not allowed to film in the Performance Center due to Florida experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases.
McMahon said (as transcribed by Pro Wrestling Sheet), “Let me just say there’s always a ‘B-plan.’ I don’t want to say right now exactly what that would be, but yes there is a ‘B-plan.'”
This year’s installment of SummerSlam was originally scheduled to take place at TD Garden in Boston on August 23, but those plans were officially nixed in a statement on July 23.
Fan reactions have been interesting, to say the least, but the best one came from Figure Four Online/Wrestling Observer’s Bryan Alvarez who tweeted, “SummerSlam on a cruise ship would be the greatest thing ever if they did it right. The show could end with them getting shipwrecked and then they do RAW from an island.”

Meanwhile, Twitter user @SUPERKICKBYHBK has already perfectly booked Jeff Hardy at SummerSlam if the boat plan happens.
