Second Round of $1200 Checks Proposed By GOP
It’s looking likely that Americans will get a second round of $1,200 stimulus checks, according to CNBC.
A proposal introduced on Monday by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell includes a second round of checks, which both Democrats and Republicans seem to agree is necessary. However, the other details of the deal have yet to be hashed out, which could delay the bill from being signed off on. Of course, that would delay the money getting into the hands of Americans.
One big issue: Senate Republicans are likely to propose cutting emergency unemployment benefits from $600 to $200, according to a report by the Washington Post. The $600 weekly benefit expires in a few days, and House Democrats have proposed extending it until January.
Meanwhile, Republican Senators. Marco Rubio and Thom Tillis are trying to ensure that American citizens who are married to foreign nationals without Social Security numbers receive $1,200 cash checks this time around, according to Fox News.
Fox Business reported that, after the news of the proposal broke, the stock market surged.
