NY Knicks’ Star Dennis Smith Donating Food, Computers to Help His Hometown of Fayetteville
Dennis Smith Jr. has always made his love for his hometown, Fayetteville, well known. But now the New York Knicks’ star point guard is stepping up even more.
Friday, the Knicks announced that the 22-year-old Smith had purchased 575 food vouchers for first responders at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
“Fayetteville and basketball have given so much to me, and today was another chance for me to give back to my community, while saying thanks,” Smith said in a release provided by the Knicks. “I wanted to show support for the real heroes during these tragic times – the first responders. And show them that I have their back, just like they have ours.”

Locals will remember Smith as a standout on the Trinity Christian School basketball team. His talent on the high school court paid off as he was a top-10 national recruit, despite tearing his ACL and missing his entire senior year season. Smith graduated high school early and played one year at North Carolina State in the 2016-2017 season. His success there propelled him to superstar status, as he was the ninth overall pick for the Dallas Mavericks in the 2017 NBA Draft.
Smith was traded to the New York Knicks in January of 2019.
