Gov. Cooper Announces First Community Spread Coronavirus Case in Wilson County
North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper says that the state lab has now confirmed the first case of community spread COVID-19 in Wilson County.
That means at least one case has been contracted without knowing how it happened. They had no contact with any known positive tests and had not traveled to a known risk area.
Gov. Cooper also said we are likely to see schools closed longer than originally planned. But that official announcements will come later.
.@NC_Governor As of this morning, North Carolina now has 97 positive cases of the new coronavirus COVID-19. Our state lab has confirmed our first case due to community spread in Wilson County, which means the person had not traveled nor been in contact with a known positive case.

.@NC_Governor We are asking employers to allow teleworking or stagger work schedules, but we know some people have to work. We are encouraging that those can take measures to be safe and cautious at work.

.@SecMandyCohen Now that we have seen our first case of community spread, we see why these aggressive preventative measures are necessary. We strongly encourage everyone to heed our recommendations for social distancing.

.@DirectorNCEM We also encourage people, when they go to grocery stores, to remember that some people cannot buy all their groceries at once.
