Watch: The Latest ‘Star Wars: Mandalorian’ Trailer
We’re about two weeks away from the launch of the much-heralded Disney+ streaming service, and the premiere of the Star Wars series The Mandalorian, which takes place five years after the events of Star Wars: Return of The Jedi.
In a brand new trailer for the show, the first thing we see are a bunch of Stormtroopers helmets (are their heads still in them?) on spikes. “Is the world more peaceful since the Revolution?” a voice asks. “It is a shame that your people suffered.”
The voice continues, “But bounty hunting is a complicated profession.” We see the title character fighting an enemy, and then carbon freezing him, a la Han Solo at the end of The Empire Strikes Back.
“They said you were coming,” the same voice says. “Would you agree?” The voice comes from a character played by a somewhat surprising casting choice: Werner Herzog, a legendary writer, director and actor of mostly arthouse films (like 1979’s Nosferatu the Vampyre ) documentaries (2005’s harrowing Grizzly Man) and even opera.
The title character is played by Pedro Pascal — who had the eye-popping role of Oberyn Martell in Game Of Thrones — as well as Carl Weathers (Apollo Creed in the Rocky films), Taika Waititi (director of Thor: Ragnarok, he also played Korg in that film and the subsequent Avengers films) and Nick Nolte.
Disney+ launches on November 12, which is when The Mandalorian premieres. Watch the trailer below.
