Ladies! Save Your Old Mascara Wands And Help This Beautiful Organization
When your tube of mascara is finished, you typically throw it away. Next time you’ve completed the makeup, save the wand!
The Appalachian Wildlife Refuge is currently asking the public for their old mascara wands. Their campaign, Wands for Wildlife uses the applicators “to remove fly eggs and larva from the fur of wild animals.” Since the bristles are tiny, they can easily brush through animal fur pain-free.
Appalachian Wildlife Refuge “is a nonprofit that coordinates the needs of wildlife rehabilitation in Western North Carolina”. Their main mission is to help care for “injured and orphaned wildlife”. The organization will help to rehabilitate them back to health and return them to their natural habitat.
Since they are a volunteer-based organization, they look for support from the public. As stated to their website, all the “support goes directly to the mission and animals.”

Aside from mascara wands, they are also looking for food, supplies and funds. All three of these items will go directly to the Wildlife Urgent Care Facility. This is the section of the organization which directly helps to improve the lives of injured or orphaned animals.

For those looking to donated mascara wands, the organization just asks you to wash them “in soapy water to remove residual mascara.” Once your wands are all clean, you can then mail them to the address listed on the website. Appalachian Wildlife Refuge also asks those who are sending wands to fill out a recycle form and place it inside the package before placing it in the mail.

The nonprofit has a wishlist that’s filled with items needed for the incoming animals. Each item purchased will be sent directly to the Wildlife Urgent Care Center.
So, all those stocking stuffers you received of makeup, make sure to save them come summer time! Wild animals will be very appreciative.
