Millie Bobby Brown attends Netflix's "Stranger Things" Season 4 Premiere at Netflix Brooklyn on May 14, 2022 in Brooklyn, New York.

Stranger Things‘ Millie Bobby Brown is being defended by fans after the memes that forced her to quit Twitter in 2018 resurfaced online.

Per Vulture, 18-year-old Brown deleted her account after thousands of posts misattributed homophobic and racist comments to her while playing Eleven on the sci-fi drama series. The British actress, who was 14 at the time, hasn’t returned to the social media platform since.

The report read: “For those of you unfamiliar: the joke here seems to be that it’s so wildly out of character and unbelievable for Millie Bobby Brown to act violently or intolerant, presenting her as such makes people laugh.”

In a recent interview with Variety, Brown addressed fan speculation that Stranger Things character Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) is gay, saying, “Can I just say, it’s 2022 and we don’t have to label things. I think what’s really nice about Will’s character is that he’s just a human being going through his own personal demons and issues. So many kids out there don’t know, and that’s OK. That’s OK to not know. And that’s OK not to label things.”

Following the release of Stranger Things’ fourth season, the meme resurfaced, leaving many to jump to the defense of Brown. See what they had to say below:
