After Rihanna and A$AP Rocky broke the internet with their baby news, Drake memes immediately started rolling in clowning the Toronto rapper for fumbling his past relationship with Rihanna.
The Anti songstress and “Certified Lover Boy” sparked dating rumors back in ’09 after hanging out at Lucky Strike in New York City but Rihanna has never publicly claimed to have an “official” relationship with Drake despite the rapper’s pursuing.
In Drizzy’s “Fireworks” he raps about Rihanna revealing that their “relationship” meant more to him than her: “I could tell it wasn’t love, I just thought you’d f— with me/ Who could of predicted Lucky Strike would have you stuck with me/ D—, I kept my wits about me luckily/ What happened between us that night? It always seems to trouble me.”
However, according to Rihanna’s 2015 Vanity Fair interview, the singer said her last “official” boyfriend was Chris Brown who she had begun dating in 2008.
Later, Drake mentioned that she’s his “dream girl” but their relationship is platonic. “She’s the ultimate fantasy,” he said to Rolling Stone back in 2014. “I mean, I think about it. Like, ‘Man, that would be good.’ We have fun together, she’s cool and s—. But we’re just friends. That’s my dog for life.”
The last time the Fenty Beauty founder spoke on Drake and her relationship was in a 2018 interview with Vogue, “We don’t have a friendship now, but we’re not enemies either. It is what it is.”
Despite their complicated past, fans couldn’t help but crack a joke at Drake’s expense.
