It’s the battle of the Penguins and Danny DeVito is declaring that his version of The Penguin was superior to Colin Farrell’s in this year’s The Batman.
Taking a lie detector test for an interview with Vanity Fair, DeVito, who played Penguin aka Oswald Cobblepot in Tim Burton’s 1992 Batman Returns, was shown a photo of Farrell and was asked, “What about this Penguin?”
Farrell donned heavy prosthetics that took four hours to apply in order to transform himself into the heavyset Gotham criminal, the actor revealed during a March appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden. Farrell is also set to reprise the role in a forthcoming miniseries.
DeVito, 77, asked the publication, “Who, Colin?” before adding, “I love Colin. He’s a terrific guy. My Penguin was better.” DeVito then looked over to the person administering the lie detector test and asked for some clarification. “Was that the truth? It most certainly was,” he said. “In my opinion.”
Though DeVito’s Penguin was killed off at the end of Batman Returns, Michael Keaton is set to reprise his role of Bruce Wayne in the forthcoming film The Flash.
