Christina Aguilera’s headlining LA Pride performance over the weekend (June 11) stunned festivalgoers when she revisited a fan favorite with a special guest, strapped on an NSFW accessory and partied with Paris Hilton.
Twenty-one years ago, Christina Aguilera, Mya, Lil Kim and P!nk recorded a cover of 1974’s duo Bob Crewe and Kenny Nolan “Lady Marmalade” for 2001’s Moulin Rouge soundtrack. “Lady Marmalade” went on to become a number one hit in 2001 for five consecutive weeks and the crowd at Pride went nuts when X-tina brought out Mya to perform it.

According to Rolling Stone, Aguilera told the crowd, “Oh my goodness. Thank you so much for having me tonight. I’m so honored and so grateful. And thank you for your love and support over the last 20+ years. You’re my family. I’m so happy to always give a voice or try to [give one to] anyone that feels like they’re suppressed or outcast. That’s what I’ve always tried to bring [with my music] I’m so proud to call you my family… you are a part of me and I’m so happy to bring this to you… we wanted to give you such a great time tonight.”
Though Lil Kim and P!nk weren’t able to join in on the performance, Aguilera had Paris Hilton on deck as DJ and included her hit “Stars Are Blind” as well as Britney Spears’ “Toxic” as part of her set. As we earlier reported, the heiress was in attendance of Spears’ wedding on Thursday to Sam Asghari instead of performing for world leaders.
Aguilera also called out anti-LGBTQ Florida law critics for their “Don’t Say Gay” bill by playing a video during her set that picked apart the hazards of the Parental Rights in Education law that forbids any classroom instruction in kindergarten through third grade about sexual orientation or gender identity. As the audience shouted “Gay!,” buff, shirtless male backup dancers came out on stage holding up signs that read “Say Gay.”
Before introducing Kim Petras, the first surprise guest, Christina Aguilera gave a speech honoring her LGBTQ fans. “We represent freedom,” @xtina said. “Freedom of expression, owning who you are, fearlessness and also fantasy.” #ChristinaAguilera #LAPride #LAPride2022 pic.twitter.com/5X7FE3egkN
