Ellen Compared Quarantine To ‘Being In Jail’ And The Internet Isn’t Happy
This week, Ellen Degeneres kicked off a home edition of The Ellen Show, and she is facing backlash for comments she made about the coronavirus lockdown.
During her monologue, she thanked first responders and medical professionals for all that they’ve done during the pandemic. She then cracked a joke that rubbed a few people the wrong way. The comedian said, “One thing that I’ve learned from being in quarantine is that this is like being in jail. It’s mostly because I’ve been wearing the same clothes for 10 days, and everyone in here is gay.” She then laughs at her own joke.
Unfortunately, the segment didn’t quite land, and a lot of people on social media had adverse reactions to it.

.@TheEllenShow people who have incarcerated loved ones are scared for their health and for their lives. Your “joke” about quarantine is not only unfunny it is insensitive. Please consider that as you compare incarceration to living in your mansion.

Let's all show solidarity with @TheEllenShow and @portiaderossi as they endure incarceration by fascist overlords in their cramped TP fort! #FreeEllen
