A$AP Rocky Found Guilty In Sweden Assault Trial But Won’t Serve More Jail Time
On Wednesday, a Swedish court found Harlem rapper A$AP Rocky guilty of assault for his participation in a street fight that took place on June 30 in Stockholm, reports the LA Times. But he won’t serve any more jail time.
The “Fashion Killa” rapper, whose given name is Rakim Mayers, pleaded self-defense and said that he attempted to avoid conflict with two males who the rapper said were persistently following his crew.
Mustafa Jafari, the alleged victim who was at the center of the case, allegedly picked a fight with one of Rocky’s bodyguards, hitting him over the head with a pair of headphones, Rocky told the Stockholm District Court.
On August 2, Rocky, 30, along with his two bodyguards were released from jail pending the verdict. All three men have returned to the United States and aren’t legally obligated to appear in Stockholm.
The rapper told the court that Jafari, 19, and his friend refused to leave he and his crew alone, and stated that the men appeared to be on drugs.
During his testimony in court, Jafari stated that his memory of the events was confusing due to the blows to his head during the fight.
Jafari also told law enforcement that he had gotten angry because his headphones were broken during the initial argument with Rocky’s bodyguard.
A full-on brawl transpired following the incident with the headphones, and prosecutors allege that A$AP Rocky and his bodyguards, David Rispers Jr. and Bladimir Corniel, beat and kicked Jafari while he was on the pavement.
Prosecutors also alleged that Jafari was hit with pieces of or a whole bottle. Jafari claimed that A$AP Rocky pushed him down to the ground.
While in court, prosecutors played video footage that showed Rocky throwing a young male to the ground, and photographs showed the alleged victim’s bruises, lacerations, and clothing with bloodstains.
While declared guilty, A$AP Rocky will not serve any more jail time, as he already spent over a month in a Swedish detention center. He has been given a conditional sentence, which means that A$AP Rocky will be subject to a probationary period of two years, according to CNN. The court awarded damages to the victim “for violation of his integrity and pain and suffering.”
The defendants were also ordered to repay legal expenses to the state; according to USA Today, they paid $1,307.
