Victoria’s Secret Hires Transgender Model
Victoria’s Secret has made a huge statement by hiring it’s first transgender model.
Valentina Sampaio posted the news on her Instagram. She added a number of hashtags under the photo including #representatividade and #diversity.
The company has previously been under fire for not being diverse enough, and they have also been under fire for comments previously made by Ed Razek, chief marketing officer of a parent company. As Los Angeles Times points out, “In a 2018 interview with Vogue, Razek said trans models should not be included in the ‘Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show’ and referred to the trans community as ‘transsexuals.'” Razek also said that “‘no one has any interests’ in a show featuring plus-size models.”
This appears to be one of many changes coming from the lingerie company. It was just announced that they would forgo their annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show this year to work on rebranding.
It was also annouced today that Ed Razek with be retiring at the end of the month.
