Dua Lipa Wins Best New Artist at 2019 GRAMMYs

Dua Lipa solidified her spot in pop music history Sunday when she took home the award for Best New Artist at the 2019 GRAMMYs.
The singer has had several hits in the last year including “New Rules” and “Electricity,” for which she also won Best Dance Recording earlier Sunday.
Lipa was extremely emotional all Sunday, even joking to CBS that she couldn’t keep her makeup on during the red carpet.
When asked how she was feeling, she said: “Crazy, honestly I keep trying to look after my makeup but it’s watering on the side. I’m so emotional, and so excited, and so thankful. I really have no words to explain how I feel.”

Lipa had just wrapped an incredible performance on the GRAMMYs stage with St. Vincent when her win was announced.
During her acceptance speech, she took a very pointed dig at Recording Academy President Neil Portnow’s comments last year that women should “step it up.”
“I guess where I want to begin is by saying how honored I am to be nominated alongside so many incredible female artists this year,” Lipa said. “I guess we really stepped up!”
Lipa also celebrated individuality, reminding her fans to keep pursuing their dreams, no matter what.
“No matter where you’re from, or your background, or what you believe in, never let that get in the way of you and your dreams, because you deserve it,” she said.
