Avril Lavigne Opens Up About Struggle With Lyme Disease on New Track ‘Warrior’
Avril Lavigne is opening up about finding her own strength in the face of her struggle with Lyme disease on her new track, “Warrior,” which she teased on Instagram Monday.
“This is one of the first songs I wrote for the album after Head Above Water,” she wrote. “They are both about the health battle I continue to fight every day. I hope my songs can help you find strength if you need it.”
Lavigne was diagnosed with the disease in 2014 after a tick bite. Her symptoms included inflammation, extreme fatigue, and feeling aches and pains.
“It’s a bug — a spirochete — so you take these antibiotics, and they start killing it,” Lavigne told Billboard last year. “But it’s a smart bug: It morphs into a cystic form, so you have to take other antibiotics at the same time.”
While doctors don’t have a cure for her condition, she continues to fight through it, all while being vocal about the struggle.
“Cuz I’m a warrior, I fight for my life like a soldier,” the lyrics read. ” All through the night and I won’t give up. I’m a survivor; I’m a warrior”
Head Above Water, is set to drop on February 15.
