The Carolinas, Georgia On Alert As Florence Expected To Become Catastrophic Hurricane
Meteorologists are monitoring Tropical Storm Florence as all signs point towards it becoming a major hurricane.
As of this morning, Florence remains in the Atlantic Ocean and has weakened slightly.
However, the storm is expected to strengthen again, and could become a monster hurricane.
At this time, it is predicted the storm could deliver 130 mph winds as it barrels toward the east coast.
In the event a storm of this magnitude strikes North Carolina, which would resemble the devastation seen with Hurricane Hugo, the Governor, Roy Cooper, has declared a state of emergency.
You may recall, 27 people died in South Carolina after Hugo struck Sullivan’s Island on September 22, 1989. The damage from the storm exceeded nine million dollars.
According to WRAL, while the storm’s path is still unpredictable, the projected variations show Florence could strike the Carolinas or Georgia late next week — Although, Florida could also take a direct hit from this storm.
Currently, experts are advising the East Coast — From Florida to New England — To be on alert in the coming days, as Florence nears.
