Mystery Surrounds North Carolina Town After Three Unexplained Deaths
Three people died at an apartment complex swimming pool this past week, and authorities in Durham, North Carolina are still trying to determine why they passed away.
According to The Washington Post, in the early hours of Tuesday morning, four friends jumped over a fence at the Chapel Tower community to go swimming.
The group did not reside at the complex, and trespassed at an hour when most people would be asleep.
However, a short time later, chaos unfolded after one of the four friends was heard going door to door hysterically.
The individual’s frantic nature stemmed from his three friends being lifeless in the pool.
The three victims, who ranged from 15 to 21 years of age, seemingly died instantly.
Officials have said their deaths do not appear to be caused from being electrocuted, which leaves the question, how did they die?
Surely, they knew how to swim before diving into the pool, right?
The pool was closed one day prior to the mysterious deaths for routine maintenance, something that happens once per week.
Less than two weeks before the incident, a health inspector examined the pool and found no concerns with its condition.
The Washington Post notes that last summer, several children fell ill after swimming in a pool in downtown Durham. While none of the children passed away, six kids were in serious condition prior to recovering due to a chemical reaction in the pool water.
It’s not known at this time if chemicals added to the pool the day it was closed contributed to the three victims deaths at Chapel Tower.
Authorities conducted an interview with the survivor, but the details from that interaction have not been revealed to the public.
Police are still investigating the incident.
