Snoop Dogg Teases Collaboration With Zach Bryan
In a recent interview with Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Bruce Springsteen, Zach Bryan explained why he doesn’t want to be called “a country musician.”
“Everyone calls me it,” Bryan told Springsteen during Rolling Stone’s Musicians on Musicians series. “I want to be a songwriter, and you’re a perfect example of one. No one calls Bruce Springsteen — hate to use your name in front of you — a rock musician only. You are one, but you’re also an indie musician, a country musician, and more. You’re all these things in one. That’s what songwriting is.”
Bryan might further prove this with a new collaboration with rap legend Snoop Dogg. On Thursday (Oct. 17), the rapper announced on Today that he and Bryan are working on a project together. “Zach sent me a song,” Snoop shared with the hosts. “I gotta put a verse on it.”
“I’m inspired, seeing that with him, with The Boss, Bruce Springsteen,” Snoop added, referring to Bryan’s conversation with Springsteen.
Not much else is known about the collaboration, like whether it will be a single or part of a bigger project from Bryan. It will be Bryan’s first time working with a rapper.
Bryan recently released his album The Great American Bar Scene, which features Bruce Springsteen, John Mayer, and John Moreland.
Meanwhile, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre performed their hit “The Next Episode” at the Olympic closing ceremony in August. Dr. Dre also talked about Missionary, the long-awaited follow-up to Snoop’s first album Doggystyle. It’s expected to release this November and will feature Sting.
Country Crossovers
Country singer Morgan Wallen recently appeared on Billboard’s R&B/hip-hop chart for his song “Broadway Girls” with rapper Lil Durk. He also teamed up with Moneybagg Yo for “Whiskey Whiskey.”
Eminem released his new album, The Death of Slim Shady, which includes a sample of Jelly Roll’s song “Save Me.” Eminem and Jelly Roll also put out a music video for “Somebody Save Me” (Eminem’s version).
In August, Post Malone, who has a background in hip-hop and pop, officially entered the country scene with his debut country album F-1 Trillion. His song “I Had Some Help,” featuring Morgan Wallen, was a Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper for six weeks. His collaboration with Blake Shelton, “Pour Me a Drink,” is currently No. 14 on the Country Airplay chart. Both songs are part of F-1 Trillion, which also includes collaborations with Luke Combs, Dolly Parton, Jelly Roll, Tim McGraw, Ernest, Hank Williams Jr., Lainey Wilson, Brad Paisley, Sierra Ferrell, HARDY, and Chris Stapleton.
