Of course, you’ve heard of the latest reimagining of Elphaba and Glinda’s story in the upcoming musical fantasy film by John M. Chu, Wicked. It’s not because the movie’s marketing team is working overtime but because of the drama surrounding the film’s cast. It might be unfortunate since the movie’s been talked about for different reasons, but it generated enough interest that fans can’t wait to see it in November.
Wicked – Part 1: What to Expect
Cynthia Arevo and Ariana Grande’s chemistry: Wicked – Part 1 will feature Elphaba and Glinda’s friendship (and later, rivalry) when they first met at school. Based on the trailers alone, Arevo and Grande’s chemistry as the leads are already a reason to watch the movie as soon as it’s released.
Supporting casts: Michelle Yeoh, Peter Dinklage and Jeff-freaking-Goldblum all play supporting roles. Yeoh is Madame Morrible, the headmistress of Shiz University where Elphaba and Glinda studied, Dinklage is the voice of Doctor Dillamond, a Shiz University professor, and Goldblum is the true villain Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Music: With Ariana Grande as one of the main leads, expect the soundtrack albums for Parts 1 and 2 to be wicked-ly good (get it? Bear with me, I love a good pun!)
Visual Effects: Since Wicked – Part 1 is a fantasy film, expect the visual effects to be top-notch. Just from the trailers, it’s clear that this movie will be a visual feast, thanks to the expertise of Industrial Light & Magic (a division of Lucasfilm) and Framestore, the team behind the magical effects in the Harry Potter films.
