Ingrid Andress Says She Was Drunk For Anthem Performance, Going to Rehab
Country singer Ingrid Andress admitted she was drunk during her widely-panned National Anthem performance before the Major League Baseball Home Run Derby, Monday night.
“I’m not gonna bulls–t y’all, I was drunk last night. I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need,” Andress said in a social media post.
As we previously reported, Andress was the talk of social media Monday night, with her rendition of the Star Spangled Banner being compared to some of the worst performances of all time.
Andress has been successful – in large part – because of her voice and has four Grammy nominations, including for Best New Artist.
In her social media post, Andress apologized for what happened and poked a little fun of herself.
“That was not me last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition. I’ll let y’all know how rehab is I hear it’s super fun.”
The performance had players holding back laughter, as they waited for the start of the popular event that kicks off All-Star Week festivities.
As you can oftentimes expect nowadays, social media was not forgiving toward the musical mishap. An article from SI collected a few of the noteworthy responses from X (fka Twitter) users.
Ingrid’s anthem attempt also inevitably drew comparisons to Fergie’s hilariously bad cover of the song at the 2018 NBA All-Star Game. Fergie’s rendition was so potently awful that it ascended to the annals of internet legend, with many doubting it could ever be topped in terms of pure cringe. But the consensus seems to be that Ingrid Andress may very well have taken Fergie’s crown.
