Angelina Jolie Says She’ll Quit Acting After Divorce is Finalized
Angelina Jolie was already going to leave Hollywood but recently revealed what is delaying her decision. The Maleficent star, 48, recently told WSJ. Magazine about her decision to eventually quit acting. However, her ongoing legal issues related to her divorce from Brad Pitt have kept her stuck in Los Angeles. She tells the publication, “It’s part of what happened after my divorce, I lost the ability to live and travel as freely. I will move when I can.”
Jolie is the daughter of actors Jon Voight and the late Marcheline Bertrand. Born and raised in LA, she was never really “impressed” with the culture. As she put it, “I never bought into it as significant or important.” Despite that, Jolie found success in Hollywood with films such as Girl, Interrupted, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, and Mr. & Mrs. Smith. In hindsight, Jolie expressed to the publication that if she knew what was to come, she might have pursued a different career. When she was starting out, she explains that there wasn’t “much of an expectation to be as public, to share so much.”
What’s Angie’s Next Move?
Now, Jolie is going on her seven-year-long legal battle with her ex-husband over custody and estate claims. On top of her own stresses about it all, the estranged couple’s six children also were heavily affected. They share kids Maddox, 22, Pax, 20, Zahara, 18, Shiloh, 17, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 15. “We had to heal,” Angelina added. “There are things we needed to heal from.”
As for where the Salt star will go after leaving Hollywood behind, she plans to spend more time at her home in Cambodia and seek out “authenticity” with her children. “They are the closest people to me and my life, and they’re my close friends,” she told WSJ. “We’re seven very different people, which is our strength.” Already living abroad is her oldest child, Maddox, who is studying at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, and her daughter, Zahara, is attending Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia.
