Shakira thought that she would be with longtime partner Gerard Piqué until the end of time. The “She Wolf” singer opened up about her 11-year relationship with the former professional footballer in a new cover story for Billboard. The Colombian singer-songwriter tells the publication Thursday (September 21) that her priority was her home and family. “I believed in ’till death do us part,'” she said. “I believed that dream, and I had that dream for myself, for my children.” The music artist mentioned her parents’ being together for 50 years and felt that she and Piqué would have a similar life together.
As she mentioned earlier this year at the Billboard Latin Women in Music gala, “This has been a year of seismic change in my life where I’ve felt more than ever. And very personally, what it is to be a woman.”
The former couple met in March 2011 on the set of her music video for “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” which was the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. They share sons Milan, 10, and Sasha, 8. Elsewhere in the interview, Shakira explained that it was “very difficult” for her to focus on her professional career while living in Barcelona. Listing difficulties like how hard it was to get a collaborator there and not being able to leave her children, she adds, “It was hard to maintain the rhythm.”
As for her global tour plans for 2024, Shakira opened up to the publication about what fans can expect. She wants “tickets to be affordable” compared to her past concerts. However, “the most important thing is the repertoire,” adding that this next tour “will be the tour of a lifetime because I have so many songs.” The tour will reportedly include arena and stadium shows in nearly two dozen countries across Latin America, North America, the United Kingdom, Europe, and the Middle East.
What Were The Hottest Concerts Of 2023?
The past two years saw the return of touring, and many acts have hit the road with a vengeance. There have been amazing live performances, with some of the biggest artists returning to the road. Some tours were delayed due to COVID-19, while some musicians happened to take a long hiatus from performing altogether. Whatever the reason, in 2023, musicians across all genres of music announced world tours and stadium tours.
Pop legends like Madonna and Janet Jackson are touring on a global scale, as are younger artists like Harry Styles and Morgan Wallen. Popularity with K-pop and Latin artists has brought musicians from both genres to have successful tours in 2023. Beyonce, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Pink and the Cure have all been on the road this year as well.
There is, of course, massive hype around Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. Her shows last three-and-a-half hours as she covers all aspects of her career, from country to pop to indie. With her two “surprise songs” each night, fans are always eager to find out what songs she’ll choose for that segment. On top of that, her timing is impeccable for fans “itching for a post-pandemic live music immersive experience.” Another factor is how much Swifties appreciate Taylor’s dedication to her craft: writing all her songs and reclaiming ownership of all of her music by re-recording her discography. Fans have also been buying and streaming the new versions of her old songs and the bonus tracks on her re-recorded versions of her albums.
