Lorde On Her ‘Hard’ Life Update: Illness and Heartbreak
Lorde is baring it all to her fans in her recent newsletter. The 26-year-old “Solar Power” singer shared on Wednesday (September 20) that she stopped taking the medication she’s had for the past decade. “The little yellow pill I took every morning for thousands of mornings since I was 15, I stopped taking it 5 days ago,” Lorde wrote. “Gonna see how it goes.” Lorde, whose real name is Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor, said she made this decision amid ongoing health issues.
“My body is really inflamed, it’s trying to tell me something and I’m trying to support it but nothing seems to help and I get frustrated,” the singer-songwriter continued. “My gut isn’t working properly, my skin is worse than ever, I’ve gotten sick half a dozen times.” She then admitted she had neglected her body before, saying that she never really learned how to listen to her body until consciously trying to teach herself how to this year. “But it’s been hard actually, pretty confronting,” Lorde adds of the struggles with her body and health.

On top of her ongoing health issues, Lorde said she’s “living with heartbreak again.” The musical artist said, “It’s different but the same,” she continued. “I ache all the time, I forget why and then remember. I’m not trying to hide from the pain, I understand now that pain isn’t something to hide from, that there’s actually great beauty in moving with it. But sometimes I’m sick of being with myself.” Despite the pain of heartbreak, Lorde shared a positive outlook on the future. Looking back at everything she experienced, she knows she will remember it with “fondness and a bit of awe, knowing it was the year that locked everything into place.” She kept it real, closing out her letter with: “It’s just hard when you’re in it.”
